We are not just another contractor. We are Cheesehead Construction. We are passionate about Wisconsin and passionate about our clients’ projects.
One of the projects that we had the most fun working on was a completely unfinished basement. It was still cement block walls and open across the entire footprint of the house. When we met with the owner, he was excited to have additional space for his family. He wanted to add a bathroom that could be used if they were entertaining and didn’t want to disturb the rest of the house. In addition, he wanted a wet bar with a dishwasher, a movie theater, and a space for his pool table. We took his ideas and came up with a floor plan that matched his ideas. When he accepted our proposal, we didn’t waste any time getting to work. This Waukesha general contractor started by installing protection on the floor and wall where it was needed for us to make it to the basement without damaging their first floor. Then we started putting in the rough carpentry work to build the separate spaces according to the floor plan that we had agreed on with our remodeler Waukesha Wisconsin.
The majority of the space was an open concept, but we did create a separate mechanical room and storage area to keep them out of the newly finished space. We also framed a space for a medium-sized bathroom, which was to include a shower. The plumbing had already been put under the concrete when the house was built, so we didn’t have to worry about doing any concrete work. When the rough carpentry was complete, we brought in the electrician, plumber, and HVAC specialists to install all of the rough mechanicals for the project. This included the supply plumbing for the full bath and wet bar, wiring for plenty of outlets and lights, and duct work to maintain a comfortable environment during any season. At this point, the homeowner did some of the work. He was previously in the audio/visual field, so he ran wires for his surround sound speakers and ceiling-mounted projector himself. Once he completed his work, this remodeler Waukesha Wisconsin and Waukesha general contractor came back in and installed drywall on all the walls and the bathroom ceiling. We finished the drywall with a smooth finish per our client’s request. Once that was complete, we were ready for the finish work. The top remodeler Waukesha Wisconsin and this Waukesha general contractor had previously ordered all of the materials needed to finish the project so that it was on site on time and didn’t delay the project. Our first contractor to get started was our tiler. He came in to tile the shower pan, shower walls, and bathroom floor.
While he was working on that work, our client asked if he could tile his bar face and backsplash with a quartzite stacked stone. We agreed on a change order and planned to have the tiler come back once the countertops had been installed. After the tiler was done with the shower, our carpenters got to work installing cabinets in the wet bar area, doors to the mechanical room, the storage space, and the bathroom. We also installed a vanity cabinet in the bathroom. With the doors installed, our Waukesha general contractor and remodeler Waukesha Wisconsin was able to come in to install the flooring. We installed carpet in both the movie theater and the pool table area, and luxury vinyl plank in the wet bar area. This was great because it provided a clear separation for the 3 different spaces, even though no walls were separating them. Our countertop vendor was next. Our client chose a beautiful piece of quartz for the wet bar. Once the countertop was installed, you could see the excitement on our client’s face. They were very excited about the way their basement was turning out.
At this point, to save some money, our client decided to paint the walls themselves. They started to work on that while our other remodeler Waukesha Wisconsin and general contractors started to come in to finish the project. The plumber installed the bathroom fixtures and the wet bar sink, and the dishwasher. The heating and air conditioning contractor installed all the vent grates and tidied up their work, and the electrician installed all of their outlets, switches, and can lights. In addition to the normal electrical finishes, the electrician also put in some LED strip lights under the bar countertop and under the floating shelves that were installed over the backsplash tile. The LEDs added a great finish because they reflected so uniquely off the quartzite backsplash. In addition, the colors could be changed on the LED lights, allowing for a completely different look whenever the client wanted to change them.
With the project almost complete, there were only the finishing touches to install. This Waukesha general contractor and remodeler Waukesha Wisconsin cleaned up and installed towel bars, cabinet handles, and door knobs. While this was being done, our ceiling expert came in to install a drop ceiling. We decided on a drop ceiling because the client wanted to have a noise barrier between the basement and the first floor. With both a movie room and a bar/entertainment area in the basement and young children upstairs, it was important to keep the noise in the basement. Ceiling tiles provide the best noise absorption, and the tiles that our client picked out accented the finishing touches in the basement perfectly. Now that the basement was complete, our client let us know that it was even better than they had dreamed it would be. We took a lot of pictures, and our client was happy to record a video for us about how happy he was with the result and how great it was working with us.
